Volunteer to help wrap gifts for children at the West End Center for Youth. This is a fun and popular way to get into the holiday spirit while helping others. We will meet at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church (1837 Grandin Rd) to begin wrapping at 5:30pm. Each wrapper will be given wrapping supplies and a bag of gifts to be wrapped for a specific young boy or girl. Gifts will be given to the children at the Holiday Party held during the Kiwanis Club meeting.

Each shopper will be allocated a fixed amount of money to spend, and given a gift list personalized for a specific young boy or girl.
Meet at 10:00 on September 12 at the Melrose Library for a two-hour clean up pf the Kiwanis Nature Park. We are partnering with SERV (Standing for Equity in the Roanoke Valley). All of the clean up supplies will be provided. All are encouraged to wear comfy/warm clothes and supportive shoes.
Help Blue Ridge Literacy by conducting student mock interviews. We will share our professional experience while helping learners practice their interview skills, build confidence, and receive feedback in a supportive environment. It is also a chance to connect with learners, hear their stories, learn about their goals, and get to know potential talent in our community. Kiwanian participation provides valuable real-world practice while strengthening community connections. Each mock interview session will run 30-45 minutes. Sessions will be conducted from 10:00am-12:00pm on September 22, 24, 28, and October 1. Volunteer for one or more sessions. BRL provides year-round English literacy classes for adults across the Roanoke Valley. Join us as we build beds for the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization from 8:30am-12:30pm on October 10 at their 622 Mohawk Avenue location. All tools and materials will be provided. No skills necessary. On-site instruction will be provided. SLHP is a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. Our Kiwanis Club is providing volunteers again this year to run a Blue Ridge Marathon Aid Station. We will hand out drinks and enthusiastically encourage runners. Our aid station is located part way up Roanoke Mountain. The shift starts at 6:45 and ends around 10:45 AM. You can drive up to the Aid Station by taking the Roanoke Mountain Parkway (on the right off the Blue Ridge Parkway just north of the intersection with Mill Mountain Parkway). Meet at 10:00 on January 19th (Martin Luther King day) at the Envision Center located at 2607 Salem Turnpike (a short walk to the Kiwanis Nature Park and the Horton's Branch watershed). We will use grabbers, trash bags, and vests provided by Clean Valley Council; will finish by 12:00 noon. This event is being held in partnership with the Envision Center (Roanoke Redevelopment Housing Authority), Shiloh Baptist Church, SERV, Clean Valley Council, our district's Key Clubs, and the Aktion Club. Meet at 9:00 am on January 10th at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore located at 3435 Melrose Ave NW. We will help store personal spruce up the place by restocking inventory and performing related tasks; will finish by 2:00 pm. All work will be indoors; bring water and work gloves. This is a good opportunity to continue with previous Club efforts in this neighborhood.
Come hear the results of the research students at Roanoke College of Environmental Studies performed, under the direction of Dr. Laura Hartman, of the Kiwanis Nature Park. This presentation is being hosted from 6:00-7:30pm on December 3 at the Clean Valley Council as part of their Sustainability Series. Roanoke College students spent a semester investigating the natural and human elements of the Kiwanis Nature Park. They will share their observations and they will share recommendations. Members of our Kiwanis Environment committee will join the Roanoke City Tree Stewards to plant 5 trees that have been purchased by our Club. Bring work gloves and wear sturdy shoes.
