NEW BOARD MEMBER TRAINING
Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke Board of Directors. We are holding our annual training session for new Board members. During this session we will review the responsibilities of Kiwanis Club board members, review the official sources of Kiwanis Board member information, and spend time addressing questions/comments from new board members. The hour-long session is scheduled to immediately follow the Board meeting.
LEADERSHIP PLANNING OFFSITE
Offsite for Club leadership to plan for upcoming year. Board members and selected Committee Chairs meet from 10am to 4pm at the Cabin at Carvins Cove. Planning Offsite includes abbreviated Board meeting. No WiFi or Zoom option. Invitation only.
CLEAN UP DAY
Meet at the Goodwill picnic shelter at 2502 Melrose Avenue for a bit of weeding in the Pollinator Garden and a bit of trash picking up at the Kiwanis Nature Park. Hope you can join us. We will put a hoe or shovel in your hands with work gloves to remove those invasive weeds. Arrive at 8:30 am for a muffin, quick instructions, and chance to work with your friends. Afterwards - how about if we cool off together with an ice cream at Blue Cow?
FUN SOCIAL – Dance
Our Club's Fun Committee is holding a dance with live music at the American Legion in Salem. Join us from 6:00-8:00pm for some music from our own Club members in the Possum Band. Some refreshments will be provided; folks are encouraged to bring some as well. Please register in advance. The cost is $10 per person. This is an excellent opportunity to invite a guest to see some of what makes our Club special.
FUN SOCIAL – Cook Out
Our Club's Fun Committee is having a casual cook out at Carvin's Cove. Join us at the picnic shelter beginning at 5:30 for some food, to socialize, and enjoy the view. The costs are covered for Club members whose meals are included in their membership. No Club meeting this week, so come out to enjoy this evening's activity. This is an excellent opportunity to invite a guest to see some of what makes our Club special.
FUN DAY
This year's Fun Day will be held on Saturday, June 1 at the Melrose Library and the Envision Center (old Melrose Library) from 11 AM - 3 PM. It will feature multiple agency and organizational activities and entertainment for children and adults, and food and drink will be provided to an anticipated 1,000 people in the immediate area.Therefore, we will need 8 - 10 Kiwanians to help with shelter/tent set up and take down, the distribution of portable cardboard trash cans and other such activities beginning at 8 AM that morning. We also need volunteers throughout the day at a Kiwanis exhibit table and at the Nature Park and the Welcome table. FUN SOCIAL – Red Sox
Our Club's Fun Committee has made arrangements to enjoy a baseball game at the Salem Red Sox on July 27; come before the 6:45pm to help sing the National Anthem and to socialize. We have a group of 60 tickets reserved for advance purchase for us to sit together. Tickets are $13 each which gets you into the game and gives you a $3 food voucher to use there. Should be a FUN night at the ballpark. Repurchased tickets will be distributed just outside of the gate. Wear a Kiwanian shirt or hat. This is an excellent opportunity to invite a guest to see some of what makes our Club special.
