Offsite for Club leadership to plan for upcoming year. Board members and selected Committee Chairs meet from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Williamson Road Library. A short board meeting will be followed by the planning session. Invitation only.
We are looking for a big crowd of Kiwanis members and the public to attend the Mill Mountain Star Dedication ceremony. We will be unveiling to the public the new plaque honoring Susan Williams (the Executive Director of LOA who was attacked and killed in February 2025 while helping someone in need). Susan spent her life in service to those less fortunate, the forgotten, and the underserved. Her dedication to supporting the vulnerable population shone through her passionate advocacy for Meals on Wheels. She championed efforts to ensure that homebound individuals received nutritious meals and also a vital social connect. InterClubs are an opportunity to invite other Kiwanis Clubs in our Division to join us for a fun, social outing at Center in the Square. The InterClub will take place from 530-830pm at Center in the Square in the Science Museum. We will have food, drink, music, door prizes, and fun activities. The cost is $25 per person and members who are on full membership will receive a $14 credit toward the event, so your cost will just be an additional $11 and you can be billed. Other members and guests will pay $25
Join our Officer Installation dinner in Charter Hall from 5:30-7:50pm. We will thank our outgoing Officers and Directors, install our new Officers and Directors, recognize the efforts of our continuing directors, listen to remarks from our outgoing President, and listen to remarks from our incoming President.
Meet at Hope Tree Family Services picnic shelter off of Oak Lane at 9:00am. Join kids from the West End Center for a fun time fishing, and have lunch. Volunteers will sign in the kids, guide fishing groups, interact with the kids, clean fish, and help with the cookout. Volunteers should wear outdoor fishing/clothing and sturdy shoes. Sunscreen, hat, and camera are good ideas.
Our Environment committee is partnering with Clean Valley Council to celebrate Earth Day on April 19 from 10am - 3:00pm with a Kiwanis booth at the celebration event in historic Grandin Village. This is an exciting outreach activity to share information about our Club's environmental efforts and our Nature Park. Larry the Logperch will be featured. Volunteers are being recruited for shifts to staff our booth. This vibrant gathering is dedicated to promoting sustainability and building community connections. Featuring eco-conscious vendors, talented local artisans, diverse businesses, live entertainment, and engaging activities for children, the event inspires environmental stewardship and fosters a sense of togetherness. The 2025 Earth Day theme, "Our Power, Our Planet," emphasizing the collective responsibility to transition to renewable energy sources and create a sustainable future.
Our Kiwanis Nature Park committee and our Environment committee have secured an exhibit booth at the 2025 Virginia Environmental Education Conference being held February 10 at the Hotel Roanoke from 7:00am-5:00pm. This is an exciting outreach activity to share information about our Club's environmental efforts and our Nature Park. Larry the Logperch will be featured. Volunteers are being recruited for shifts to staff our booth. Classroom and community-based environmental educators from across the commonwealth will participate in professional development, networking, learning opportunities, field trips, and collaboration to celebrate and enrich environmental education in the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond.
This year's Fun Day will be held on Saturday, May 31. We will be partnering with Melrose Plaza, the library, and the Envision Center. Looking forward to bringing us all together for a grand opportunity to celebrate community. Free food -- Shiloh Baptist Men's Mission grill the best hot dogs and hamburgers and there is lots more. Meet at the Kazim Shriners of Roanoke to take part in a National Day of Prayer breakfast, 627 Campbell Ave. Breakfast buffet opens at 6:45am. Program runs from 7:15-8:30am. Preston Tyler, Pastor of Hill Street Baptist Church, is the keynote speaker addressing the theme of "Peace Be With Us." Tickets are being sold to attendees only. Tickets cost $9.00 per person.
