We will be unveiling to the public the new plaque honoring Susan Williams (the Executive Director of LOA who was attacked and killed in February 2025 while helping someone in need). \nSusan spent her life in service to those less fortunate\, the forgotten\, and the underserved. Her dedication to supporting the\nvulnerable population shone through her passionate advocacy for Meals on Wheels. She championed efforts to ensure that homebound individuals received nutritious meals and also a vital social connect. May Susan’s legacy inspire future generations  to lead with passion and serve their community with unwavering  dedication \nThe Mayor and other dignitaries are expected. The press is invited. The dedication ceremony begins at 10:00am at the Star visitor platform. \nThis is an excellent opportunity to invite a guest to see some of what makes our Club special.

DESCRIPTION:Our Kiwanis Nature Park committee and our Environment committee have secured an exhibit booth at the 2025 Virginia Environmental Education Conference being held February 10 at the Hotel Roanoke from 7:00am-5:00pm. This is an exciting outreach activity to share information about our Club’s environmental efforts and our Nature Park. Larry the Logperch will be featured. Volunteers are being recruited for shifts to staff our booth. \nClassroom and community-based environmental educators from across the commonwealth will participate in professional development\, networking\, learning opportunities\, field trips\, and collaboration to celebrate and enrich environmental education in the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Kiwanis Club of Roanoke and the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce are inviting the public to the Roanoke Mayor Candidates Forum from 5:00-7:30pm October 1. This event is being held in Charter Hall on the third floor of the City Market Building at 32 Market Square. The media will be invited. Lite refreshments will be provided. Admission is free. Registration is required in advance. No walk-ins. \nCandidates Joe Cobb\, David Bowers\, and Stephanie Moon Reynolds will respond to previously prepared questions; WSLS 10 News Anchor John Carlin will moderate the event. The event will not include an audience Q&A session. Whether you’re a resident\, business leader\, or simply interested in the future of Roanoke\, this event will provide essential insights into the upcoming mayoral election. Each candidate will have a fixed time to address each question and for follow-up comments. Questions will be focused on topics that allow the candidates to talk about their platforms\, the issues\, and their qualifications. Time will be allocated at the end of the forum for candidates to speak one-on-one with voters and the media.

SUMMARY:KIWANIS INTERCLUB - Golf and Dinner
DESCRIPTION:On September 19\, 2024\, the Danville Kiwanis Club will host an Interclub for Kiwanians in our division. Members of our Kiwanis Club of Roanoke are encouraged to attend (many of us have had fun at these Interclub events in the past). \nGolf will be available at the Danville Golf Club at 12:30 p.m. At 5 p.m. or so\, the golfers will leave the golf club and drive into town to the Danville Science Center on Craighead Street where at 5:30 p.m.\, the Science Center will host a Happy Hour of beer\, wine\, and nibblies. At 6:30 p.m.\, the attendees will walk twenty paces or so to the train station where a barbecue dinner will be served. \nThe cost of everything\, not including the golf\, will be $20 per person. SUMMARY:FUN DAY
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Fun Day will be held on Saturday\, June 1 at the Melrose Library and the Envision Center (old Melrose Library) from 11 AM – 3 PM. It will feature multiple agency and organizational activities and entertainment for children and adults\, and food and drink will be provided to an anticipated 1\,000 people in the immediate area. \nTherefore\, we will need 8 – 10 Kiwanians to help with shelter/tent set up and take down\, the distribution of portable cardboard trash cans and other such activities beginning at 8 AM that morning. We also need volunteers throughout the day at a Kiwanis exhibit table and at the Nature Park and the Welcome table. Please sign up for a shift between 8:30 to 11:30; 11:30 to 2:00 or between 1:30 and 3:30. \nFor these purposes\, our volunteer gathering place will be in front of the Melrose Library at 8AM on Saturday\, June 1. \nWe will also need the use of 4 or 5 shelters/tents in an area adjacent to the Envision Center\, so if those are available for use from our membership and friends that day\, that would be extremely helpful. \nHere is the link to the Registration Form: https://forms.office.com/r/urBM79wMdm
